Summer Term

Purifying Water, Yummy Soup and an Act of Kindness

What a busy but amazing summer term in Rowan Class. We had a visit from Seven Trent Water who told us lots of interesting information about... going to the toilet!!! The children learnt the importance of what to bin and what to flush. After a great assembly, we found out what it takes to purify water. Rowan children created a simulation of what is flushed down the toilet and then investigated what it takes to make the water clear again.

As part of our Columbus and South America topic the children made some yummy gazpacho soup. We talked about food safety and techniques for using a sharp knife safely before we started to prepare the dish. The pupils were amazing - chopping up all the ingredients and getting them ready to blitz! Everyone enjoyed their turn using the blender, although there were mixed reviews about the soup. It was almost a 50/50 split whether gazpacho soup would be on the menu again!

As part of our ACT 'Take Action', we wanted to improve the school environment. The pupils turned this into an 'Act of Kindness' when they decided to clear up the Year 1 garden area. The paths were weeded and swept and overground bushes were cut back and made neat. They filled an amazing 15 bin bags with garden waste and a Dunkirk jungle was turned into a workable space for the young children. I am so proud of how hard they worked for their community.
