Every child has the right to a safe, happy and supportive educational environment. We are incredibly lucky at Dunkirk, because we have such a wonderfully diverse community, and we celebrate that diversity, making the most of the opportunities that it affords us. Our Safeguarding in the Curriculum Overview and Personal Development Overview clearly outline the ways that we ensure this happens. 

At Dunkirk, to enable pupils to have a safe, happy and supportive educational journey, we have exceptionally high expectations of behaviour for our Dunkirk children. Our Behaviour Policy clearly sets out our procedures in school to ensure that we maintain our high expectations.

However, we understand that sometimes, incidents of inappropriate behaviour may happen, and we take any incidents of behaviour which fall outside our school code of conduct very seriously.

As per our British Values Statement, we ensure that we: 

• enable students to develop their self knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence;
• enable students to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England;
• encourage students to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely;
• enable students to acquire a broad general knowledge of and respect for public institutions and services in England;
• further tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures;
• encourage respect for other people; and
• encourage respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes

Any case of inappropriate behaviour, which includes but is not limited to: bullying, harassment, verbal abuse, sexual abuse or any forms of humiliation will be subject to a 'Child on Child' investigation process as per our Behaviour and Safeguarding Policies. A log will be made on our central system and parents of the children involved will be fully informed of the investigation, its outcomes and the risk assessments to prevent further re-occurrences.
